SALT LAKE CITY (March 11, 2025) — The Utah Transit Authority and Salt Lake City announced their partnership to increase frequent service routes. With $6.3 million in annual funding from Salt Lake City, UTA’s Go Routes operate every 15 minutes or less during peak hours.
To identify the high-frequency routes to riders, UTA and Salt Lake City are adding Go Route branding to bus shelters. The partners launched the first two upgraded Go Route bus shelters along Route 21 at Foothill Drive and Wakara Way.
“One of the greatest factors in people choosing to ride public transit is frequent service. With service every 15 minutes or better during peak times, you don’t have to worry about checking schedules or planning ahead; you can just show up and go,” said Jay Fox, executive director of UTA.
Salt Lake City’s investment supports the Go Route frequency on four high-ridership UTA routes (1, 2, 9 and 21). Salt Lake City now has eight Go Route buses running every 15 minutes or faster from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Salt Lake City has been a longstanding investor in additional transit, including funding the Zero Fare Zone downtown and the dedicated bus lanes on 200 South that opened last fall. Ridership data shows that those investments are paying off. In 2022, riders took about 4.6 million trips on bus routes with enhanced service. By 2024, that number grew to more than 6.1 million.
“Every time we improve transit, we make it easier for people to move through our city without the stress of traffic or parking,” said Salt Lake City Mayor, Erin Mendenhall. “This level of frequency ensures that public transportation fits seamlessly into Salt Lake City’s thriving, transit-friendly community.”
UTA is exploring its high-ridership routes in other cities to add to the Go Route regional network.
