This past year's achievements and highlights showcase just a fraction of the incredible work accomplished by UTA's 2,800+ employees and partners in 2024.

1. Ridership Increase

We saw a 16% increase in ridership, a testament to our growing community and improved service offerings.

2. Million On-Demand Trips

UTA On Demand hit a major milestone with 1 million trips completed, demonstrating our commitment to innovative and flexible transportation solutions for riders.

3. Hosting the IOC Committee

UTA hosted the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on TRAX to discuss transit readiness for the potential 2034 Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games. Following our success in 2002 as the primary transit partner, we’re eager to once again support the global stage of the Olympics.

4. MVX Construction Kickoff

Construction began on the Midvalley Express (MVX), our third all-electric bus rapid transit (BRT) route. The MVX will connect communities and destinations like Salt Lake Community College and the Maverik Center with fast, reliable service through Murray, Taylorsville, and West Valley City. 5. Upgraded Fares Technology

UTA introduced enhanced fare technology, making paying for rides easier and more accessible. New features include mobile payment integration and updated ticketing options to streamline the rider experience.

6. FrontRunner Gap Filler Completion

We completed a summer-long project to fill platform boarding gaps at all FrontRunner stations. This improvement enhances safety and accessibility for riders using mobility devices, strollers, and bikes. Check out our video here.

7. Stadler Light Rail Vehicles Announcement

UTA approved a contract with Stadler for up to 80 new light rail vehicles as part of our TRAX Modernization project. These vehicles will be built locally in Salt Lake City and support our plans for expanded and updated service over the next decade. Check out our video here.

8. OGX Anniversary

We celebrated the first anniversary of the Ogden Express (OGX) all-electric BRT line. Serving Weber State University and McKay-Dee Hospital, OGX continues to provide efficient, eco-friendly transit. Check out our recap video here.

9. 2024 Riders’ Choice Awards

UTA riders ranked us near the top in two international categories:

Best Customer Service: 2nd place

Best Bus Operators: 3rd place

These awards, part of the Transit app’s annual survey, reflect our dedication to delivering exceptional service.

10. Big Boy Visit

Union Pacific’s iconic Big Boy No. 4014 steam locomotive visited Utah during its 2024 Westward Bound Tour. Stops at Salt Lake Central Station and Ogden Union Station delighted thousands of rail enthusiasts.

11. Enhanced Air Show Service

UTA provided extra FrontRunner service and a free shuttle to accommodate the large crowds attending the 2024 Hill AFB Warriors Over the Wasatch Air Show.

12. Additional Ski Bus Service

We expanded Ski Bus services to support Utah’s world-class resorts, adding two new routes for Little Cottonwood Canyon and enhancing services to Powder Mountain, Snowbasin, and Sundance.
